[SOLVED] Steam on Ubuntu Phantom Launching to tray

Ubuntu 22.04 kernel - 6.5.0-1015-oem followed instructions in the guides prior to this for ubuntu and steam. Whenever I open the applications menu on Ubuntu and click steam, it launches to the system tray and my jet engine fan noise revs up, but no windows ever open. the problems I had with manjaro years ago came from installing other packages in their repository or the AUR. So the question to me is can manjaro update their system without breaking things given this is read only
