Hey! Sorry if this is the wrong place. I am trying to bind a KV for a specific environment and now the KV doesn't bind correctly in the code. This is what I see in the terminal on startup:

Vars:
...
  - kv-namespaces: [
 {
  "binding": "XYZ",
  "id": "ASDF"
 }
]

Vars:
...
  - kv-namespaces: [
 {
  "binding": "XYZ",
  "id": "ASDF"
 }
]

Before this, I was binding at the top level and this worked as expected where I could access the KV by just doing env.XYZenv.XYZ in code but now it is an array which can't be interacted with. Any help is appreciated! Happy to paste some of the toml and what not if that would be helpful!

I wouldn't think so. These issues are almost exclusively just api/dash stuff (control plane), internal components like DOs/Workers are rock solid. Haven't had an issue with them even during wider outages like the Nov 2023 one

Implementing strong consistency would negate the main benefit of KV, which is low-latency reads, as strong consistency would require a single source of truth. If you need a KV store with strong consistency, you should probably use a Durable Object's Transactional Storage: https://developers.cloudflare.com/durable-objects/api/transactional-storage-api/

R2 has strong consistency (mostly, see https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/reference/consistency/) and supports larger values. That will likely fulfil your usecase

KV does not perform like an in-memory datastore, such as Redis. Accessing KV values, even when locally cached, has significantly more latency than reading a value from memory within a Worker script

is using KV metadata simply incompatible with the dashboard? I'm tempted to use metadata for list()list() calls to be self-sufficient, but I worry we'll create a new entry or update an existing one using the Cloudflare Dashboard and we'll have metadata !== value

(or, are there any easy ways to view/edit metadata within the dashboard?)

There's no way to view/edit KV metadata within the dashboard today, nope. I'm not entirely sure honestly what happens if you edit a key's value in the dashboard that already has metadata - that's probably worth testing.

I'm a bit late to the party but I would personally recommend you always use DO over KV personally. Especially when you can create a DO per user as DOs are faster than KV when close to the user. Only time I use KV is when I am too lazy to bring up a wrangler project and just make a small worker via dash lol.

Only time KV is really more useful than DOs are when you have larger values but then I would just recommend R2
