We've got a load of email addresses that aren't really being used. Time to change that. @Tyler Mentioned he wants to work on this.

Questions

How can we integrate it in the website? It would be nice if reading the newsletter shows you links to the website, so you can discover other content from there. Vice-versa, it would be nice to use the search bar to find newsletters.
How often should it be sent? Maybe once a month? Every week?
What should it include? Of course news from PauseAI (protests, podcasts, etc) but probably also some of our takes on what's going on in the world.

But yeah, seems like Pause.AI could have a monthly (or even weekly) "News Letter"? E.g.
The PDF for that letter could be:

Posted on the site/blog
Added to discord
Add to patreon for people to sign up and help support the site or the News Letter
Printed as a "flyer" and left in libraries, schools (@Océ Bec), other physical bulletin boards (in stores, city buildings, etc)

Of course, it's a lot of work to make a regular News Letter like this. But, if people are interested and want to volunteer for it, could help to get the word out! (E.g. Especially for "normies" that wouldn't usually do the research into something like this... )

I've drafted an initial newsletter (https://docs.google.com/document/d/134qma475obkqfZpr4fzBCMWRs_KRehi2zHaHZveRI_k/edit?usp=sharing) that PauseAI could send out to all supporters we have email contacts for. This is basically introducing the idea of the newsletter, giving an opportunity to unsubscribe, a small recap of the past year, and signal boosting our action opportunities.

Then, in April, the newsletter could take the same format but narrow in on recent updates and action opportunities.

Thoughts? Feel free to make any suggestions. Pinging @Joep Meindertsma in particular.

I think it's worth a little time to investigate some options. Some considerations:

Price
Can we use our domain as sender
Can the newsletters be viewed from a website
Can we query the API and import the letters to the PauseAI website (even better!)

Maybe we should use Substack — it is free aside from charging commission on paid subscriptions, can be viewed from the web, and allow a custom domain for a $50 fee. I don't think there's an API to allow simultaneous publishing on the PauseAI website however.

Maybe there should be a dedicated "News Letter" channel?
A place where people can:

Suggest stories or ideas to include
Discuss sections/story submissions for the next news letter
Discuss ideas, changes, updates, media coverage, etc in PAI that could/should be included in the official update/newsletter
Announcements about specific News Letters (e.g. "Fyi that the September News Letter will be approved and locked in 5 days! If you have anything you think we should include in that News Letter, please mention here now! Also, please review, proof-read, comment, etc the Draft September News Letter here (provide link) in the next few days, before it's locked and shipped! Thanks!")
etc.

Could also setup:

A standardized Newsletter Template, and
12 dedicated NewsLetter Google Docs for each month of the year ahead of time?
- This would allow people to add/suggest items for future news letters. E.g. If they know if an event, protest, etc that is planned for that month, or the following month as a reminder, etc.
- A specific pre-schedule conference, protest, release, dead-line, etc that could/should be included for a specific month's News Letter...

channel specifically to gather stories for weekly videos. But we could definitely make it way more strongly linked. I like the idea of doing the announcements and standaradized newsletter!

Ah yeah. Maybe there just should be a PauseAI tag, for news that PauseAI specific news? Then when the newsletter building time comes someone could start by filtering for articles in #news-

Absolutely! @Deleted User we have a very long /risks page. I think it would make sense for many of these risks to be moved to their own pages. Maybe that's something you'd like to work on?

I'm sad the newsletter from today didn't use the opportunity to say "not to PLAY... but to PAUSE". I will continue to repeat that I really like that slogan until we start using it or people ask me to stop

Newsletter Revamp

We haven't published an edition of our newsletter since October last year. Let's get it back underway. It’s a great way to celebrate our achievements, keep members engaged, remind them of the urgency of this issue (as a thousand other topics attempt to capture their attention), and encourage them to take action.
