ZAfaik the safest way to change DE is by reinstalling, some DEs work okay-ish by just rebasing to it and some work way worse going back
Krebasing to switch DEs is not supported by us or upstream though, so you're on your own there

Kon deck images we're using valve's session model which has it's own limitations
