Hi, I am beginning my proper journey into flight sim, especially helicopters, currently loving the Hype H145 in MSFS, I have lived in an area with a lot of aircraft, especially helicopter activity since childhood, I live very close to what used to be RAF Chivenor in North Devon, and have always wanted to be a pilot from a very early age, but sadly my eyesight prevented me from fulfilling that dream. So the sim is as close as I can get to the real thing.

I have been a sim racer for many years but I have recently found it to become somewhat boring, so I am wanting to spend more time flying than driving. I went on the hunt to see if FFB devices were available for flight sim in a similar way to sim racing, which led me to discovering this community. So hi everyone!

I am keen to learn more about the RHINO. I am currently considering my options for hardware, I currently have the Thurstmaster HOTAS joystick and throttle, while it is OK, I feel it could be a lot better. Currently liking the look of the Virpil range of grips and was wondering if the RHINO was compatible with the Virpril grips?

I‘m flying helicopters with the Rhino now since a few days! And what I can say is this is just awesome experience.

I used a TM warthog with a 40cm extension held in place after moving via steering dampers. This was fine as a workaround. Finally I went for Rhino and this is so much better. Force Trim with FFB is excellent!!!

The only difference between virpil extensions and thrustmaster ones is the virpil have loose connections with a bit of extra cables so you can rotate the grip as needed...

Hey group, I have a question. I got Brunner MkII FFB pedals to go along with my FFB stick, however I just read on Reddit that DCS doesn’t support two FFB devices. Is that true? I can’t find any other reference to this info, and figured this group would know for sure.

probably not, I don't think any sim has native support for ffb pedals

sigh The fact that the Apache module has a “FFB friendly” trim setting listed for both cyclic and pedals led me to think both are supported.

Well, I found a workaround for now, if anyone else is in the same boat. I put the joystick in DirectX mode so it can take advantage of native integration, and pedals in manufacturer's software mode/disabled centering force. So now they work like a regular set of pedals without springs and with a damper kit.

I noticed the other day there is an option in the software for Pot#2 Function which is disabled because I assume there is only 1 physical potentiometer on the standard base. Can a 2nd Pot be added though manually?

The DIY version does have a second potentiometer beside the Stop switch.

I haven’t finished my build, nor officially gotten started, but I’ve been studying everything.

If you want the second potentiometer I would stress to ASK @walmis about how or if this would affect or possibly Void your limited warranty.

If you are past warranty and would like to attempt to install the 2nd potentiometer?

I would download the specific top plate file from the GitHub and have that printed because it already has the spots for both pots.

Replace your original top plate with the DIY top plate and wire the additional potentiometer.

Not sure why we have two on the DIY so first off I’d just want to ask “why”

Then I’d see if the answer was enough for me to consider the upgrade.

If I was you…. I won’t open an official Rhino while it’s under warranty.

You know the term if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

I'll try and remember to get it set up and take pictures. I have it mounted to a monstertech desk mount and basically just position my chair where it sits right there in front of my arm rest. Makes it comfortable and super easy to maneuver. I also have a throw limiter to stop the forward travel. Otherwise in a crash in Il2 my vkb grips trigger hits the mount.

Got a virp cm2, 20mm gooseneck extension and virpil grip right now. Probably half the weight of the rhino.

Nope just the long version. It vibrates me whole desk but stays rock solid for me. I do not use an extension as it sits perfect for side mount height for me.

I believe the 3D printed ones from the kit will work with the official unit.

Nice. I might add something between the table and clamp for some extra rigidity. Planning to place it in a central position. Should work - and I might order a longer profile as well to just plunge it into the floor as well as table. I have to move it around some due to kids playing other games.

That’s me and why I use a super warthog wheel stand.

When I get to fly I take over the kids rec room and just push the stand right up to the TV but that’s also why I like my stuff to be solid but removable (wing nuts are your friend)
