hyper-v is pretty bad for linux (and bsd) vms but handles windows vms itself really well since it's, well, by microsoft themselves

Can't really help currently. Dual booting myself atm. Without doing passthrough, iric, it works best with Spice and also with Intel thanks to SR-IOV.

Key thing is to use virtio disk and network drivers. Just go thru the wizard to create the VM, but when you get to the end, don't click on "begin", instead select "customise hardware". At that screen, change the disk interface to virtio from the drop-down box, and do the same with the NIC as well. Then add a second SATA interface and make it a cdrom type, and select the virtio driver ISO. Also worth changing the BIOS type to OVMF_CODE_4M to use UEFI.

Then start the installation, and when to get to the formatting screen, browse for the drivers and install them. After you install Windows, open the ISO and install the exe which contains the guest addons and the rest of the drivers.
