I just thought about something, do every game played on Linux gets his directx calls translated to vulkan? Is that what proton does?

Tinstall wallpaper engine via steam so its workshop content is downloaded, then in the area where you can pick wallpapers (directly in KDE), theres a wallpaper engine option. Point it to your steam install, and itll pick up the workshop content
Tbut as far as i know not every wallpaper will work, some may look broken
Tits basically just piggybacking on the workshop content of wallpaper engine, so you dont have to run the actual software

RSo, I remember being able to choose Vulkan as rendering API in red dead redemption 2, therefore, would it be possible and benefic to disable that "translation" and set Vulkan in-game?
Tyup, that works. im just not sure if its faster or not

RIt is I think, but using another thing, like vkd3d for dx10+ I guess and vkvoodoo or smth for dx9 and less

RThere is an option in Lutris about vkvoodoo or something near this word that said "used for dx9 and earlier" when you hover it

RYeah because like every tool existing, it has to be used properly, if the dev implementation is horrid, the translation may be better and the other way around
Ti mean some games perform generally better here too, although everything is translated in some form
Tfor example i have much higher FPS in FFXIV on linux compared to windows on the same rig
RI remember having better performance using Vulkan when I was on windows, that's why I was wondering
Tbut in the same breath, i have around 10FPS worse in Cyberpunk on linux

RBut I think it's because my laptop has a CPU bottleneck, and Linux consuming less resource than windows gives more room for games to work

Ti thought i could "workaround" the firefox issue by forcing it to run on XWayland, but it just outputs a mess

HAnyone have issues with the Xbox controller dongle sometimes not reconnecting to controllers properly after they go to sleep from idle? Controller and dongle have solid light after turning the controller back on so it should be connected, but steam doesn't seem to pick it up. I occasionally have to unplug and plug the dongle back in to get it to work. EDIT: on steam deck with the official dock, in case that matters
VI see why I wasn't experiencing it now, I mainly use the power button to bring up that menu

Tim not involved on the development of it, but i guess the best way is reporting which wallpapers dont work to find out which features are missing.
