People of PauseAI + Volunteer form

We need a team page. A place on the website where we show who we are. During our previous Action meeting, we talked about a "people of PauseAI" page.

I'm currently working on this. I'm using Airtable as an online database / CRM where we can manage all volunteers / team members / people.

Here is the webform. (note, it's still work in progress)

Contact info definitely should not be shown on the website, at least not by default. That's a good way to get spam and/or harassment.

Dollars donated might be a little weird to show if some of the people on the same page ended up receiving those dollars.

Yeah, the thing I was thinking was that if volunteers want to put a message about how AI risks affect them that's cool. but that would be quite different that a team page about employees

Main goal is to make PauseAI more "human", for lack of a better word. Make people feel like this is a community of individuals who all do stuff, not just some abstract anon brand somewhere. I'd like the page to have a large and diverse group of individuals, who joined for a wide variety of reasons.

I guess they wouldnt be that different. One would have job titles and the other not. One should have all the people who work and the other whoever wants to. One is quite common and the other I dont think so? One tells you about the people you could be donating for their salary and the other not. None should have contact info.

idk if the database approach is the best one for the goal tbh, maybe a page with a bunch of pictures of testimonials would be a better fit (and it would certainly be easier)

having the data internally is certainly good but i'm not sure if presenting a bunch of raw data to people - even if it's designed well with pictures etc - without "telling a story" will move that much

Here is my two cents: at the moment it feels like you are trying to do the classic "startup team" page. But this is a grassroots movement not a startup. So I wonder if it would be more appropriate to have a page that shows something more akin to "testimonies". Pictures of volunteers at pause ai and a few sentences they write about themselves, what motivated them to take action and how they are making a difference now. We would not even need to mention a specific "role", or we could let people free to choose it, it could be "organizer", "volunteer", "writer". Actually scrap that, how about people put their real job? It shows that they have one and they are contributing to Pause AI regardless

I think the question should be "Do you want to appear on the website?" Appearing in a website can be a big deal. I would have it off by default

I like that it makes me want to write something myself and have tons of people there. But I don't think we have to a) not put people who haven't actually participated and only written stuff there or b) have people who are not volunteers or employees... which I think would be bad for fake stuff reasons

People of PauseAI - Video Project

PauseAI needs something viral. Something to get the public’s attention. And since we’re a grassroots, volunteer based movement, what better than highlighting the perspectives of our volunteers?

The People of PauseAI video project will give everyone a chance to weigh in on why you are involved with PauseAI. Volunteers can submit video testimonials, which will then get edited together into a montage showing the diverse reasons people have chosen to get involved with PauseAI. The international nature of the movement can also be emphasized, with testimonials from several countries. We can then share this montage on our website, socials, etc. and help spread the word.

End Product:
We’re hoping for the final video to contain clips from at least 25-50 video submissions from PauseAI volunteers. The video itself will only be a few minutes long, with a few seconds from each submission edited together in a montage. After showing the various reasons people have joined PauseAI, the video will end with a call to action, asking the viewer to get involved.

How you can help: Submit a 1-minute video telling your story and explaining why you’re involved with PauseAI.

OpenAI and other big tech are doing human labour exploit in developing asian countries like Indonesia Philippines for data labelling paying few cents per hour and under harsh conditions. Most probably if AI moves to AGI, then this will take a much harsher form, this pain and suffering is analogous to factory environments in china too..
