CThere is a non-zero chance that one of the issues in my setup is my JSAUX dock. Trying an alternative dock may have alleviated the crackle and drop-outs. Need to test more tomorrow when I've got some more time, but it's food for thought anyway!

Jto install it on fedora you need to run "dnf install goverlay" as root
Jaccording to their github, have you tried that?
