I guess what I mean also is all things being equal, if I were to play the game through epic/heroic vs owning the game in steam, are there any performance differences? In other words, does playing games through epic/heroic have all of the Steam/proton benefits equal that of playing a native Steam game?

Though if with "native" you mean a game with a Linux port instead of running proton... I would say is kind of a mixed bag, sometimes a native Linux version works worse than proton one, if it doesn't break because of dependencies missing stuff

Yesterday I updated steam, booted windows, updated bios & firmware
Today I can't start Diabo (Proton experimental). Luncher runs fine, but game screen remains black until Steam restarts. Did not check any logs yet, just asking.

Somehow I was able to make it work. In journalctl were some errors with allocating memory, so I changed UMA auto to fixed value, rebooted like 2 times and it seems to work now. Maybe coincidence

Just a reminder: pinning won't affect steam. So if your intent is pinning to restore steam back to normal from a beta, that would be meaningless
