I think the boot rom is programmed into the board. GPU initialized it then it looks for specific files to boot a kernel.

Do not really remember it well. But I know the first stage bootloader is baked into the device and it looks for a file name "bootcode.bin", if I am not wrong, to continue the boot process.

I really did not think of them as issues. Since they did not stop us from developing. As long as you had the required files, you could boot your custom kernel.

The files are there free to use. But the source is unavailable, I think that is what grinds peoples gears.
