Macy’s, JC Penny, Nordstrom! What do you like and dislike about your favorite mall anchor department stores? Which one is your favorite and least favorite?

i feel like i’m generally pretty indifferent about them
but at the same time i hate my dying mall who split their macy’s menswear section into an entirely different storefront
just leave it in the macy’s dammit
John Lewis is pretty fine
The closest one to me though closed down 4 years ago 😭
And the nearby Debenhams is just empty
i miss sears sometimes

the deals are unbelievable and the selection is amazing

Bergdorf is my fave but I've never bought anything at the place lol

I'm still sad about Neiman Marcus at Hudson yards closing does that count
Nordstrom hasn’t impressed me for the last few years but I gave it another chance after midi said it had gotten better
Their half yearly sale is on and I am in trouble :401k:
i’ve literally never seen anything remotely close to fire in a department store besides like a barbour jacket. nothing i’ve given more then a 2/10 at ani of those

Macy’s beauty dept is decent but agree that the clothes selection is disappointing
Are you talking about Saks Off Fifth or Saks proper?

I've very rarely seen a worthwhile sale at Saks proper. Saks Off Fifth is fine but I prefer Nordstrom Rack.
But it's not really a department store imo. More like a treasure hunt store.

C21 is dangerous because I buy something almost every time I go in
And it's like right by my office
AFAIK Saks off fifth sources directly from Saks vs other off price stores usually have made for off price product and occasionally get product from full line stores
I got a Canali suit for like $220 just before they closed for bankruptcy/Covid
Having said that I’ve never seen anything worth buying at off fifth

I haven't been back to c21 since they reopened
It's like 85% as good as pre-bankeuptcy
Which is still very good
I had to go to Nordstrom for a tux fitting, walked around briefly and realized nothing looked promising as far as window shopping goes
Their sale associates were aggressively nice too
The only things I’ve bought at a department store are luggage, pillows, and cookware. Not much to be said about the clothing they carry
Never been in a department store I liked
Macys has some nice sheets that I’ve only gotten online
