Sdoes in the directory showed Heroic Wine or Heroic Proton? If so you could just add version and choose whatever wine version you want to choose. If not you could create a custom directory and tell Heroic to use that directory

SI just managed to install a version of Proton through Heroic but I put it in the game defaults and nothing changes, I start the game and it doesn't run, I go into the game settings and the option to put Proton or Wine doesn't appear

Athe game defaults affects only new games, for games that are already installed you have to change the settings of the game itself
Aclick the settings icon of the game and a game-specific dialog will show up
