Steam doesn't recognize when game launches
This might not be a problem with heroic at all but I'm hoping someone here knows how to fix it. I installed Sonic Mania through heroic and had it automatically added to steam. When I go into game mode and launch it, I can tell that the game launches fine because I can hear it in the background, but steam never leaves the "launching game" screen. Its not finding the game as a separate window either, it just doesn't seem to recognize that the game launched. In desktop mode, the game launches without issue. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'll update in a moment with heroic logs and system info in case that helps

okay, you need to turn on umu and make sure this setting is on

make sure you're using proton-ge instead of regular proton and don't override it with steam's compatability settings
and if that doesn't work, i have guide for you
(that setting is accessible in the downloads settings in desktop mode)

Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton with umu instead:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Enable umu in "Settings" (Heroic sidebar) -> "Advanced" -> "Use UMU as Proton runtime"

3. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"

log says you are using proton 9.something
which is why i said to not use the steam compatability setting, make sure that's off in the properties setting in steam

oh it seems steam is set to automatically override it
ok I turned off the steam compatability setting and turned on umu and its still exhibiting the behavior

it may be an issue with how it was added to steam, especially because you had the compatability override on
let heroic handle that on its own

Hi, I got redirected here from another post.
I have a similar issue but I don't understand where that "shader precaching" is.
Here it goes then, the one after the "failed" launch through steamdeck gamemode:

It seems like the solution in that post is just "Remove the shortcut in Steam, then re-add it". The post also mentions re-installing Heroic, but I don't see how that's relevant
