It almost is plug&play. Basically get the VPForce configurator, TelemFFB (optional) and set them up.
Check mark force feedback in DCS, set up instant trim for every module in the special settings and you are good.

Just by having telemffb running without any configuration except the absolute minimum to make it work is 70% of ffb experience. You loose a lot without it.

Does it make a difference (in terms of being gentle to the Rhino hardware or keeping the motors in their comfort zone), whether you set "spring gain" to 100% in the config software and then dial down the potentiometer on the Rhino to, let's say to 50% versus setting "spring gain" to 50% in the config software and then cranking up the potentiometer to full whack?

The spring gain slider is the ultimate gating factor as to how strong the spring force can get. Gain slider at %100 with potentiometer turned to %50 is the same as Gain slider %50 with potentiometer at %100.

i keep mine at 100% 100% and use telemffb to lower the strength at various levels for different planes.. so when its on autopilot it's very strong but i'm not forcing it so motors stay happy

i do use 75% and it's more than enough to fight the stick and feel the preassure. I do no sweat as i am when simracing with 25nm base (i end up full wet after 2h race), but this 75% of 57 motor feels right and correct for any situation i've encountered

100% spring gain would be hard to manage as side stick or center with no extension, there is no aircraft that will require that much of force i think

The reason that came to my mind in the first place was, that unnoticed by me, I must have dialed down the potentiometer to around 10 or 15%

and then got problems with stability (x axis went red) and I was wondering why the centering spring didn't work no more and everything felt spongy and floppy. So I thought maybe cranking up the potentiometer to 100% and never touching it again could prevent that issue. Smitty, I really like your suggestion to do the actual tuning in TelemFFB and thus having individual settings for each chopper

electrically, the motors only pull amps and make heat when youre pushing it away from its center. if you have everything cranked at 100% and you dont push on it, it wont warm up.

i have not much FS exp (learning), but from simracing community, it was like breath of fresh air. People who never been in show drift in real car tells about how it feels when ABS kicks in... when IRL it kicks in, you pray the hell out it to work and steer b/c life depends on it ) maybe i exaturate, but it's night and day between Racing vs Flight community

I've got nice wheels and nice wheelbase for simracing, but it doesn't have this feeling for some reason. I don't know it's either due to thing being self made or due to it's aircraft.
Every time i touch flight controller (F18 TM grip) i feel like there is weight behind it, as i almost lift up my right with it. I do not get same feeling with race gear (wheel/base)
Maybe it's mental thing, but i feel the weight of aircraft throughtout the stick

you can get an "introduction" flight at every aeroclub, where you will be flown in a training plane (think small cessnas) and will get to pilot it for a bit when in the air. If you want to just experience it. An actual license is very expensive because of the flight hours you have to make

The problem with sim racing is that the settings etc…that make it more immersive in regards to IRL experience don’t make you faster in game. There, to be faster, you need different settings. So you have to choose between being fast in game or closer to IRL.
And yes almost nobody in these sim racing forums and discord hase any valuable experience with race cars. And sorry track days are not real racing experience with a race car. Some RL racers do obviously a good business w/ sim racing making Youtibe videos and selling AE gloves etc…

Simhub do support some flightsims (MSFS for sure, DSC too i think), but it's unrelated to Rhino / TelemFFB. You will be able to utilize Simhub's telemetry for that seat thing, but not TelemFFB's
