Cannot enable NTSync on kernel 6.14 and proton-cachyos/proton-experimental.
How to enable NTSync in Heroic when using kernel 6.14.? Option: PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 doesn't seem to work 😦

To help you, we need a game log. Please see the following images on how to get it.

do you have kernel module on?
lsmod | grep ntsync
as well as can your user access /dev/ntsync?grumpy-cyanOP•2mo ago

you sure this build even has ntsync?
sure it's cachy
but if it's based more on proton experimental then chances are it doesn't...
@loathingKernel sorry for the ping, could you chime in for a sec?

We do not have ntsync in any regular releases, we only did "the one"
@Achilleus you cannot enable it because there is nothing to enable.

Yes, this is the only one that had ntsync

OK, thanks.

Which is too old right now to suggest using it.

For Cyberpunk 2077? A game released couple years ago? So when to expect "native" NTSync support in proton-cachyos?

first it needs to land in Wine itself
like I said in #🎮-gaming
it's not merged upstream yet
then proton has to catch up with that patch

Seems like a year or longer...
foreign-sapphire•2mo ago
maybe not, but i wouldnt expect it soon
it takes time for stuff to get built around new kernel features
like i said im not sure what problem you are trying to solve, but if its perf related, your best option is hardware upgrade

What an apt recommendation... RTX 4090 Laptop seems quite "new" though...
foreign-sapphire•2mo ago
i mean software can only improve things so much
like i said, you cant just magic more fps
grumpy-cyanOP•2mo ago
Tell this to nVidia with DLSS or AMD with FSR.
foreign-sapphire•2mo ago
that isnt magic..? there's some very real pros and cons to those solutions.
grumpy-cyanOP•2mo ago
There are almost no cons for me, especially when I compare DLSS 4 on max settings and don't care much about input lag of 50ms, as I only play offline/SP.
foreign-sapphire•2mo ago
that's fine, but these are all methods to not render frames 🙃 and the trade is input lag, weird noise in some situations, etc
they work because they take away work the GPU has to do and instead interpolate some inbetween frame instead, which .. has pros and cons its not magic.. ntsync isnt going to do this kind of uplift in any case
grumpy-cyanOP•2mo ago
We shall see, but my experience with DLSS and my info regarding NTSync reportedly uplifting numerous games performance under Linux make me believe quite opposite.
