Hey, I'm trying to create a Hyperdrive instance with a Render Postgres DB. I paste in the connection string (which works when I connect directly to it in my code), but I keep getting status "inactive" in the dashboard. I tried both creating through the dash and with the wrangler CLI, and didn't receive any errors or anything. If you were able to create the Hyperdrive config you're good to start pushing queries through it! Active vs. inactive on the dashboard just means that it has been used in the past 24 hours

For local development, you have to use a local database. You can also do local development with npx wrangler dev --remotenpx wrangler dev --remote, where your Workers are run in Cloudflare and that will allow you to connect to your remote database

any chance someone on the hyperdrive team can give the folks working on the cloudflare vite plugin a gentle nudge. while wrangler dev succesfully polyfills everything required for mysql2 to run, the cloudflare vite plug in doesn't. my best guess is this is due to unenv not handling safer-buffer https://github.com/unjs/unenv/issues/486

From the Cloudflare Dashboard everything is "Active" (Hyperdrive) and "Healthy" (the Tunnel) and cloudflared also is runnign without any log output. But workers connecting throw:

Any clue where to start debugging this? The MySQL server is doing fine and nothing has changed on my end (I was asleep when the incident started). But I expected there to be some visible fault somewhere

I cannot for the life of me create a hyperdrive connection to my Neon PG DB. It is always stuck in "inactive" and returns an error when attempting to use it "SERVER_ERROR: NeonDbError: Server error (HTTP status 530): error code: 1016"
Is there some black magic I need to perform on the Neon side of things (because the hyperdrive side seems super simple)

Do we need to create a new SQL connection for every request with Hyperdrive and close it after fetching the data, or should we create a single connection instance and reuse it? The latter approach seems more reasonable to me but it doesn't appear to work on Workers.

We are using hyperdrive with postgres and drizzle which is being called from pages worker functions. We encountered a nasty bug which took a few days to be narrowed to one API call.

API endpoint is beyond simple, does just 1 db query:

Clients were falsely receiving mapFound: truemapFound: true on occasion. Logging in pages functions is very limited, but we we were able to reproduce the bug by barraging the API with requests until it falsely returns mapFound: truemapFound: true.

The mapsmaps table doesn't change often - a few modifications a day at best. Seems like a hyperdrive bug to me, but I don't have any evidence to support it except for the info provided above.

The problem does not happen locally. We added map.geoguessrId !== params.geoguessrIdmap.geoguessrId !== params.geoguessrId as a bandaid fix in a desperate attempt to fix it and it seems to be doing the trick. No idea what map object is being returned, logging would really help

We've reviewed the Hyperdrive troubleshooting documentation (https://developers.cloudflare.com/hyperdrive/observability/troubleshooting/#hyperdrive-specific-errors) and the Cloudflare status page, and haven't found any reported outages during that time.

We're trying to understand if this error is related to our usage pattern, which we might be able to address, or if simply retrying the request is the recommended action.

We can provide our account ID and Hyperdrive ID if that would be helpful for investigation.

Hello!

Yes, a Hyperdrive ID would be helpful so we can double check whether there's anything specific to your usage that might be good to adjust.

In general, we do recommend application-level retries. With a network in the mix, there will always be some queries that fail and it's good to build around that where possible. We do expect to continue to improve our own retry behavior over time, but there will always be some gap because it won't always be clear to Hyperdrive what queries are safe to retry so we are very conservative on that front.

No, we don't have good guidance around that yet. Our architecture is pretty much built around "1 Hyperdrive = 1 user", and trying to use session state to end-run that without letting it corrupt other connections/queries is tricky.

CC @thomasgauvin this is the second time we've had someone bump into this. Might be worth thinking through options here for our upcoming roadmap?

This is something we'll need to tinker with a bit to get a good design that offers security without degrading perf. We have similar challenges around how to handle bypassing caching and potentially similar challenges around replica routing. @thomasgauvin we should see about folding some of that into our design for cache flexibility. It feels like it sits in a similar spot.
