you reaaaaally shouldnt be installing steam on heroic, there are other options for that like crossover or whisky

if you really need windows steam on your mac for free, use whisky, unfortunetely development recently stopped for it BUT if you check out MiketheTech on youtube he shows you a way to fix this issue

the issue for me is that heroic is the best free option for running games i’ve found, but the game i’m trying to play needs steam open in the background to connect to the servers and correct me if i’m wrong but it couldn’t communicate with mac steam/wine steam if the exe was launched with heroic

yeah nah heroic isn’t really the best thing to run steam in a wineprefix with you’d be better off using whisky or crossover

you need to run the game from steam you cant run it in heroic as heroic doesnt have a backend for steam games steam drm and other services are usually required for steam games

I mean you pay the 99 once and you keep the same thing “forever” (in theory) I picked up my sub during Black Friday for some obscene price (like 20 bucks)

tbh crossover is one of the best ways to play windows games on mac

if you don't want to pay crossover and you are on an M chip, you can try the build from this PR https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/pull/4462/files that uses an older version of Steam that works with GPTK note that it will ignore all updates so you won't get any fixes or new features of steam same integration kinda works with wine-crossover but when I tested it kept getting stuck installing games so it was not useful the official up-to-date steam client only works with the paid version of crossover the outdated steam files that you can get with that in-development pull request only seem to work with GPTK (so if you are on intel mac, your only option will be paying for crossover) to clarify, the build from that PR will install steam, then you'll have to open steam and install the games there, the games won't show up in heroic

kegworks is great because gcenx has done a ton for the mac gaming community did you have msync turned on?

I don't remember now but I think I did

msync has been known to stop steam from installing games for genuinely no good reason LOL most people are told to turn it off while installing and then turn it back on when running the game
