Changing proton version breaks launching

OS: Bazzite Game: Skyrim SE Issue: Changing Wine version in Settings>Wine prevents game from loading properly. In Skyrim specifically, the launcher loads with missing Settings options. Clicking Play causes CTD. Current fix is to reinstall the entire game with desired Wine version. Looking for a way to prevent this from being necessary.

Additional: Loading the EXE directly causes previous save to not be used

I wouldn't if the game wasn't malfunctioning in some way. Switching from any version to any version causes the issue The issue isn't with proton/wine specifically This is just for launcher behavior

so proton and wine store their prefixes differently and so it makes sense the game would lose its settings and other saves and stuff it also may break any winetricks stuff you've set up (or automatically been setup) generally speaking: you want to use latest proton-ge and umu across the board

ok so you need to stick with either wine or proton and cannot swap between the two without causing error Alright I'll keep that in mind for the future

well you can back up the save data and clear the prefix and let it rebuilt it

and restore the save data back to the right folder for the game basically you have to do house keeping if you swap between wine and proton
