MFAD At Work - Topic of the day 5/7/25

Most likely you are doing something for a living other than posting on discord - what is your current 9 to 5? How does it impact the way you dress? How much does your work clothing reflect your style (or desired style)?

I wear what I want at work and at home because I am lucky enough to be in a position that my employer does not care much what I wear so rick at work is go

I hate being customer facing sometimes. Especially when people try to drop off literal garbage.

I feel that modern society has been more accepting of style expression at work. Some companies still think showing to much skin is taboo (unless that’s your job, more power to you)

I work as a secretary/social media girly for the Catholic church so initially I thought I had to dress modestly but thankfully that‘s not the case at all, it‘s super chill I do try to avoid crop tops and super short skirts out of personal preference but besides that I really can just wear whatever I want I get a lot of compliments from my coworkers too:blushcatto:

WFH: T shirt, fleece, J. Crew chinos that would make mfad cringe. Office: Whatever feels cute to me. I like to put in some effort and try to make mfad proud. Union organizing: Opportunity to wear red!

My workplace is often different, so I dress differently all the time. When I work from home, basically old tees, comfy sweats and hoodies. When working at an office no one really cares so I can dress how I want, mostly some combination of workwear, ivy and gorp. At events a suit or sports coat. And when I'm travelling (often tropical countries) I mostly wear linen pants and merinowool shirts The past weeks I've been mostly holed in at home, at my last important meeting with a client, I wore wide oni denim, a chambray shirt, a moleskin chore and rm williams

I work from home so I wear whatever you see in my waywt which is basically whatever I feel like except when I have to go to the office or meet with external partners in which case there’s a dress code that I mostly abide by

My job is relatively physical and pretty tough on clothes so I don’t wear most of my nice stuff

Middle schoolers get glue and acrylic paint on my nice things so I’m forced to be less precious

What you see is what you get with me, I’m a teacher so no one gives a shit what I wear.

Self employed, I dropped out of college last year to start a Lego design company (yeah that’s a thing :blushcatto: ) and it’s going great 😄 I work from home although I’m going to cafes with my laptop a bunch lately Actually… fashion is a way to force myself to go outside everyday! Planning to do daily waywts once I’ve got my schedule regular again in a few weeks

WFH as a government contractor so the answer, especially now, is 🤷 part of my investing time in clothes was preparing for a worse case scenario of returning to office with a business formal dress code, though the few times i've gone in i've been one of the most formally dressed by virtue of wearing a tie :xd: i do enjoy the act of dressing for work, as it's a mental shift to being productive and professional, even though there's considerable overlap with my off-duty stuff

I’m with Holfram. I teach 8th grade. No adult cares what I wear. The kids either roast or compliment the fits, depending on the day. I welcome both 🙂 Even though I teach math, I used to get ink and expo marker and all kinds of stuff on my clothes at work so I never wanted to wear clothes I liked. I eventually realized that was more a function of me being frazzled as a new teacher, so now I wear whatever.

i build sets for theaters. what i wear depends on what im expecting to build (i.e do i care if i get glue and paint on it). alternating that with going to an iop, which is where i get to wear my fun outfits

Academic medicine. It's....complicated. Almost always do a dress shirt and chinos. Ive erred on the side of slightly-overdressed my whole career, but it gets weird as standards differ wildly by day whether practicing clinically, meeting with university leadership, doing community engagement, sitting in my office writing, etc. I do not wear a tie but might start now that I'm rarely doing clinical/lab things myself and don't have to worry about dipping it in something yucky. I also just got tenure so....maybe sweatpants? Haven't decided yet🤣

I'm in office most days (finance), and although my team has basically no dress code -- I've seen shorts -- other people in the office wear dress shirts and such, so I think this does tone me down because I don't want to look too different. But I also don't dress that crazily (yet) so imo not a big ask for me. The one thing I wear on the weekends that I wouldn't wear to work is like a bralette under a sheer top. I also got these jeans recently but haven't worn them to the office yet because some part of my brain is saying they're too flashy??? ?They're literally black. I will have to get over it soon and then will be normal about it

I work in marketing/advertising. My team runs all the martech for a restaurant group. I'm mostly wfh and just wear shorts and a tshirt most days (I'm in AZ so it's pretty warm most days even in the winter). I go into the office about once a week. Everyone in a position above me wears bad fitting jeans and a polo shirt. Most people below me wear bad fitting jeans and shirts or a polo. I normally wear chinos and a polo/button or a sweater in the winter. I'm trying to experiment a bit more though.

I work in diplomacy/development (for another month and then no job rip). I wear a suit most days, and work consists of meetings (internal, external) and laptop things. Most people dress either business professional or business casual, although some are straight-up casual (s/o to IT in the basement). Since I never know when I’ll need to be in a meeting with the big boss and other high-ranking diplomats or similar, I play it safe. But I love color and always make sure to have some color on. My absolute favorite suit is actually burgundy. Last two pics are the most casual they’ll ever see me.
