Suit purchased! Shirt, tie and pocket square recommendations please?
Hello! For those following my recent suit purchasing journey, I landed on an MTO heavy linen suit in tobacco (leaning a bit more toward reddish undertones than yellow).
I will wear it likely with whiskey shell cordovan derbies. I’d love some recommendations on shirt and tie combos (and bonus for pocket squares). I’m leaning towards either:
White giro ingless shirt with navy knit tie
Naturel / beige linen shirt with olive knit tie.
I think I’d like to go with knit ties because it’s more casual and because I like building an outfit based on different and contrasting textures. But I’m open to suggestions! Please and thanks!
This is the fabric though as mentioned mine will be a DB with as wide pants as possible (9inch hem).

either one of those sounds good. I like either a plain white pocket square or none at all usually these days. Pics will be far more informative than word descriptions tho
I know you mentioned whiskey cordovan derbies, but i really love this shade of brown with a black knit/grenadine tie and black footwear
the shirt/pocketsquare are interchangable at that point
a whit linen, or some other slubby textured cloth, pocket square would do well all summer long with most pairings
Yeah, you’re right. I don’t have the suit yet though so just gathering ideas. I probably won’t buy shirts and the rest until I get it
Oh that sounds nice, I have black suede derbies from Paraboot / Arpenteur, they are a bit more dressy than most Paraboots. My watch is on a brown leather strap but I suppose I can find a black suede one too
The only other black shoe I have are black double monks unfortunately
Black suede can be really nice with this color too. Although, I find the proportions of a suit have to be just right to work with Paraboots (helps if the silhouette is wider and details are more workwear.)
I second the black knit and grenadine for this though.
I maxed out the width in the MTO so we’ll see. Slightly nervous but oh well.
You guys mean black knit OR grenadine right? Not some kind of grenadine knit?
Yeah, OR here
The point is texture
If you could find a matte shangtung that might work too.
You were right to. It will be a good purchase, that’ll hopefully last.
I believe I got my black knit tie from kamakura or ascot chang. v nice and crunchy
Thanks! I think the only measurement on the pants I’m concerned with is the hips. Everything else seems reasonable, I just changed the hem, thigh and inseam.
For the jacket I’m reasonably certain it will fit because their single breasts in the same size fit me well (i think) - I just trimmed the length and sleeve
Nice ill check those, I saw Spier has one too
I don’t see it on ascot but I do on kamakura. Spieres is 3/8 wider which I like with the peak lapels. It’s also way cheaper for me
A black shantung would also look great. Shibumi has some nice ones right now. Not as well priced as Spiers knit probably. https://shibumi-firenze.com/products/triple-bar-shantung-silk-tie-black-hand-rolled?srsltid=AfmBOopvSD2pfNPPgVYbvtxdMGKWIfZTFNeWpd1-GetLEfgcrLvLgcoV

The black is also a lot more matte than that.
That’s a very stubby texture for a tie, really cool! Never seen that before
Yeah, I love them. My only hesitation with them paired with linen suits is that sometimes the linen can be that slubby too. So a chunkier tie can help set it apart. But this kills with an Irish linen.
I’ll wait to get the suit then and we can see! Will be a while, probably June
In the photo, the linen on the suit doesn’t look slubby at all. But I’ve seen a good deal of variation. So probably worth it to hold a beat if you’ve got time to see.
Yeah I wonder if the twill might smooth it out a bit?
