Battletech on GOG using SteamDeck
I’m trying to get GOG cloud saves working for Battletech. What I’ve read it only works with the windows edition install. I previously had the Linux version installed and running without any issues. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the windows edition to activate cloud saves. Ever since then, the game just won’t start. I click “play” in Game Mode and inside Heroic, and it switches to “Playing” for 20-30 seconds, then just stops. Nothings is “crashing” necessarily, just the game won’t start. I verified I’m using the latest Proton and Wine in Heroic, I verified and repaired the install, and it still didn’t work. I uninstalled the windows version and now I only have the option to install the Linux version. Did I screw something up? Did I miss a step somewhere?

To help you, we need a game log. Please see the following images on how to get it.

How do I get a log for the windows version when I can’t install it to reproduce the issue?

?
You said you are running the windows build yes?
You said you installed it and ran it and had it not start, correct? If so this is how you share the logs
Show a screen shot of trying to reinstall it

I uninstalled it, will it still have the logs?

Potentially if you didnt delete everything
In the drop down for platform it just has linux?
Are you doing this in desktop mode?

This is through game mode. The drop down only lets me select Linux. I can try and look through desktop mode if it changes.

Generally you avoid issues by installing games in desktop mode and adding them to steam

I was able to reinstall the windows version through desktop mode, and reproduce the non start issue for the log.

Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
3. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name
to current-name_bak
. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.frail-apricotOP•17h ago
Thank you @Allora @termdisc for your support! Using all of your steps, I was able to reinstall the windows version thru desktop mode, add to steam, and verify that GOG cloud save is functioning when play through game mode on steam deck.
