and as for answer it is

a) because all the other product formed are gases so it is easier to extract hydrocarbon
b) nucleophilic substituion is easier because of the I effect from nitro group

nitro group is electron releasing so it will mke the haloalkane more electron density rich making it more reactive towards nucleophile
Shouldn't NO2 decrease e- density of ring?
