Questions regarding doing an update on an "older" ostree

Background:

  • I have a desktop mode Bazzite 42 system that was getting the "uupd" error about not having updated in the last 30 days
  • Yesterday I ran a "ujust update", but I goofed and control+c aborted part of the command (had the wrong terminal window focused, was trying to do something in a different terminal), which aborted part of the update but the rest of the update kept running.
  • The new ostree (0) can't boot properly ... it will just go to a black screen ... possibly due to my goof in the previous step
  • I can still boot on the older ostree (1) just fine
## Questions:

  • Is 'ujust update' the correct procedure to run?
  • Will doing that only affect the (ostree:0) entry? *Assuming I'm currently booted into the working (ostree:1) entry. I just want to be sure when doing 'ujust update' (or whatever the correct command is) will always leave me with the working (ostree:1) entry so I can keep trying to fix whatever is going wrong
  • Bonus question: I don't understand why the system isn't auto-updating, which would be my preference versus running 'ujust update'. That worked for going from 41 -> 42 but has apparently not worked since. My OS drive is a 1TB NVME empty aside from what Bazzite has installed (ie, no games/etc stored on it) so space shouldn't be an issue.
## System basics:

  • Originally installed as bazzite 41 (bazzite-nvidia-open) that auto-updated successfully to 42 about a month ago
  • 5800X3D
  • 3080 TI
  • Almost all 'bazzite' ~/* directories (like .steam, .config, documents, downloads, etc) are actually stored on my second NVME and I manually symlink them so the system uses them as normal. Mentioning this because it is my only "customization", all my additional software is in flatpaks aside from games installed via Steam or Lutris.
