For now, this is only available for Workers that are deployed to a “root” hostname like “example.com” and not specific paths like “example.com/path/to/something.” We plan to introduce more optimizations in the future that can preload specific paths.

Is this still the case, or did that optimization land for custom routes (i.e. non-custom domain routes)?

I’m like 75% sure this is wrong, since I use waaaaay more than three Cron schedules in many of my Workers.

Are you allowed to do a fetch with FinalizationRegistry? Was thinking you could make a Worker fetch itself as soon as it's being cleaned up.

FinalizationRegistry is only on gc cleanup, i don't know if you'll be able to get that reliably on worker shut down - i doubt it

Build Environment wise? Yes, it's been my experience the Workers Builds are slower
Production wise? It's all the same tech, Pages Functions are Workers, and both Pages Assets and Workers Static Assets are based off the same stuff, both use KV for storage and such, Workers Custom Domains are faster then Pages Custom Domains by a solid ~20ms tho

Hey everyone!

I'm new to Cloudflare Workers and exploring caching strategies.

Current Setup: SSG blog site (like Pages). Goal: Rebuild with a framework (Hono/RedwoodJS) using a headless CMS (GraphQL) and achieve static HTML-like speed.

What are your best tips for caching with Workers in this scenario? Specifically, how can I make dynamic content from a headless CMS feel as fast as a fully static site?

I like Application Functions a lot more than Workers for (semi) static pages. Setup is simple and straight forward, chose git repo -> deploy / done. There is more to set for workers and without wrangler you will have troubles setting up everything. I would suggest unifying the two behind the scenes but keeping pages like worker templates, keeping it stupid simple for folks wanting to do something super straight forward. - Do not go the AWS route by making everything super abstracted and granular and necessarily super complex, PLEASE!!!

To my knowledge you need to pass any data you want to get from the front worker to the api worker yourself. I used this mechanism to create security insulation for workers that needed to share session details

When workers are called they respond from the closest node, in your case 2 workers calling one another would most likely be on the same exact node if not then at the very least same exact location! So basically if you have the location of the main worker you have the one of the subworker too.

You need to download the libraries to your project then you can use them, you can not load remote online libraries
