Death’s Door controller doesn’t work in Steam Deck game mode

Controller works in desktop by default, but in game mode it does not. With or without steam input turned on. It seems to require heroic to have an open window in the background?

I have this games and just tested it and worked fine. Even if I suspend the game the controllers works fine. I am using proton-ge-latest with latest heroic version
