steam deck controller doesn't work in desktop mode
Hi,
While with steam "native" games the controller works well either in gaming or desktop mode, with Heroic (GOG or EPIC, doesn't matter) the controller either isn't detected or works only partially in desktop mode. One example is Fallout 3, the only game I have on all three platforms - I had Steam version and got both GoG and EPIC versions for free in various giveaways. I've installed all three, using Heroic for GoG and EPIC versions, and while all work well in gaming mode, in desktop mode only the steam one detects and uses the controller properly. The other two seem to only detect the joysticks and B key, nothing else.
Other games, like Ghost of a Tale (GoG) don't even detect a controller in desktop mode.
How can I go about troubleshooting this?

Press and hold the start button to change the controls to gamepad mode
