Poor SteamVR Performance

I experience very poor performance with games (both Proton and native) exclusively in SteamVR, as flatscreen runs with no significant issues.
I use ALVR and SteamVR in wired quest 2 setup. Framerate is extremely inconsistent and most of the time very poor (10-30 fps, in some cases very bad stutters), depends on things observed in the game, as some visual elements cause significantly less issues than others, with seemingly no pattern. I have been unable to achieve good framerate even at 20% resolution.
For example
VRChat - consistently poor performance, very bad stutters when menu is open
H3VR - very poor performance looking at the floor in in-doors range, good performance looking forward
VTOL VR - volumetric clouds rendered with no issues. Observing a cockpit causes signifcant performance drop.

Performance # A word on antialiasing # Antialiasing should be avoided when possible and the compositor scale should be increased in monado to smooth out edges. In general AA is found to increase the latency of delivered frames quite noticably and the GPU utilization far more than simple super sample of the actual VR session or app.
