Trails of Cold Steel Steam Deck Controls Not Working

I'm having an issue getting Trails of Cold Steel to recognize any Steam Deck inputs when launching it in Game Mode. It works in Desktop Mode, but not properly. In Game Mode any controller inputs are not registering at all. In Desktop Mode they do, but it looks like some buttons are double bound maybe? I had a hard time getting the menu to open since it kept bringing up the map when pressing Y instead.
It was working at one point for sure with the previous version of Heroic I was using, 2.15 I think, although I'm not sure that's the issue.
My Xbox controller works just fine both on my desktop running Bazzite as well as on Steam Deck in Game Mode.
There's a community layout that binds all the controls to keyboard mappings, so it's playable and I can work around it, but it's not perfect since the sensitivity on the right stick is way off. Moving it slightly spins the camera around crazily. Some of the bindings aren't right either so with some work it could be configured properly it's just annoying.
