vcore4 bed heater issue
need help. vcore4 idex 500, bed heater will not heat up. wiring verified correct, 24v to bed power on octopus v1.1 446 is present. I have replaced the octopus board, ssr, bed heater, verified fuses are good. 1.3v on the bed out terminals but when I set the temp up to the bed i get voltage bouncing all over the place. Indicator on SSR does not light up. tested a 3rd SSR, also no indicator light. tried running RATOS configurator multiple times. no luck. At my wits end.

Do you have your grounds tied together?
yes
Got a pic of the wiring?
Wiring is mess atm since I haven’t cleaned it up from the component swaps

Where are the wires to/from the bed itself going?
neutral on the power supply and terminal 1 on the SSR
Okay. And it's the "bed out" going to +/- on the DC side of the SSR, correct?
yes sir
Okay, that's all how mine is, and that looks like the proper quality SSR
When you say "voltage bouncing all over the place" what do you mean, precisely?
That makes sense, its PWMing
what is ratos showing, and what is the temp reading of the bed

okay, so the thermistor is reading correctly at room temp at least.
originally the bed failed during a print. changed the SSR, then the octopus, then the bed heater. no go.
failed how, fuse blew?
no idea to be honest. checked voltage from the SSR first and didn't have any. work back to the board after that. replaced the bed heater last.
power everything down, disconnect the bed heater, check the resistance across the heater. Should be only a few ohms
will do
8.9ohms
That sounds right too. Man, this is a tough one
Let me check if I get an indicator light on my SSR
yeah, i've been chasing this for weeks

Yep, red led lights up once I commanded the bed to heat
something stupid like flipped polarity on the SSR input?
didn't try that but I can switch it real quick
note that bed-out is + then -, opposite order compared to the other power ports at the bottom of the Octopus
checked that but silk screening on the SSR is wrong possibly!?!
you have red going to the same side as my red does
and red coming out the same bed-out as I do :/
yep and switched is same result
kk.
if you disconnect the SSR from the octopust and supply it 24VDC directly from the psu, does it light up?
checking
it lights up. another bad octopus?
sounds like it 😦
the heater bed has the right resistance, the SSR lights up if power is supplied...
It's that or the wiring right
agreed, just hard to believe the new board is also bad.
Trying to think if there are any jumpers to affect the bed-out function but I don't think so
double-check that 24v is reaching the bed-power port, the octopus is just passing that along to the SSR, so if that isn't getting there, then there's nothing to pass along
checking now
voltage at the bed out terminals is where I am getting the voltage bouncing
bed power, not bed out. And where are your probes?
my bad, 24.18v and on the screw heads
yeah, so it's being supplied correctly, just not going out the bed-out 😦
I also verified it's using the right pin. guess I'll have to get another board
Checking docs I don't see any jumpers or config that would affect this so my vote is a bad octopus.
At least we're confident about the SSR and the bed heater now
agreed
thanks for all the help. I don't feel like i'm going completely crazy anymore
A second set of eyes and brain can help a lot, even if it is confirming unfortuate news. You're quite welcome
