xbox controler not connecting via bluetooth

i just installed bazzite on my desktop, coming from linux mint. my xbox controler worked fine there, but here it isnt detected. my BT chip is the intel ax200. i have a bluetooth headset i use and it works fine. i just updated the controler firmware via microsoft on laptop thats running windows. no change. when i pair the controler it just hangs there and then evently shuts off before the pc can find it. i belive that when i plug the controler in via usb it works properly.
Solution:
i have a pair of (old) usb bluetooth dongles that i know work for everything i own and i use those over the ones embedded in the wifi card on my newer motherboards (also because i am lazy and dont want to re-pair about 40+ controllers πŸ˜… )

seems odd that it worked fine on mint though. i just read somone said there batterys were low and that didnt allow it to pair via bluetooth. im charging mine atm. see if it makes any differnce.

might also be an upstream regression in bluez for that chip bluez regressions are annoyingly common at times

its just odd cause my headset works fine. i dont know much about bluetooth, but my simple brain thinks one owrks other should aswell.

nah i have had random devices not work because of upstream issues while others do work (see the original steam controller) and it would not surprise me if issues like that can be limited to specific chips too let me check what the chip is on my new mobo, i got plenty of controllers, plus xbox one controllers so if i have the same chip i can easily test (although i do not have xbox series controllers) AX210 so not the same chip

but i dont even use the bluetooth on it, was just hoping it was the same so i could try check if mine worked

i was looking at xpadneo but see it requires dkms. it also seemss to throw an error or somthing for the ax200 chip.

thats from there compatability list. found an asus card in my drawer but not sure it has bt... lol is there anything i should look for with a bt dongle?

bt dongles are kinda a crap shot since you dont know the chip in it until you plug it in (at least here) so you wont find out how compatible it is until you try mines are fairly old too i think BT3.4 and BT4 or something like that

says onboard bt needs to be disabled to use?

nope you can select which bt controller to use in linux, at least on KDE

a dropdown gets added into this configure interface for bluetooth a bit of a pain, but you can make a script to turn off the other onboard bluetooth at login
# Power off built in bluetooth
echo -e "select AA:BB:CC:11:22:33\npower off\n" | bluetoothctl

alright thankyou.

and since you then turn off the on-board one, the default one should now be the usb ideally i would have some form of ETA for a fix (if any), but none of us work on bluez, we rely on upstream for that :clueless:

i understand. bazzite has been great for me and this is the only issue that has poped up for me.

but hey, if the ugreen usb bt dongle works well, you have a fallback solution for any future pc you get

the joke is i think i have a wifi/bt dongle, and my step bro is borowing it and he is about 8 hours away and no idea when he be back... his wifi dongle died and i lent him mine that i had as a backup. and never got it back...

rip i just had one die last night. ended up ripping it out of its shell and jamed it into my pi hat and works fine there. guess it was the usb board that died or somthing

Well I was having the same issue as you with my Xbox controller. When I was under windows, it would connect instantly, but under bazzite it would pair at first and then do stupid shit after and never reconnect. The BT chip is not the problem, probably something to do with drivers alongside linux environment. I will continue the troubleshooting tonight

Try to update a firmware on your controller It resolved all my issues in my case
