Are M&S, John Lewis and TkMaxx good places to shop at
Hi guys, I am based in the UK and looking to start shopping for clothes.
These shops seem to have a good reputation for quality, affordable clothing that also looks good. I am trying to avoid fast fashion items.
Let me know your thoughts please.

From a UK perspective they're ok quality with own-brand though the style is basically "aging millennial"
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can just be a bit restrictive stylistically
You're mostly not going to avoid the sins of fast fashion with these, but you'll also need to spend more (or shop secondhand) to get past that.
John Lewis has two own-brand. Kin which has nice stuff and John Lewis branded. Former can be more interesting. Latter is a bit more generic
Tbh the main draw of m&s is the wide array of sizes and in-person locations
This doesnt really apply to TK Maxx. They have:
1. The brands they own, which all suck.
2. The stuff they buy at massive discount from other brands. You can get some real gems here.
Yeah skipped tk maxx because I haven't got experience with them in the last 10 years
Personal cost benefit I cba spending time finding needles in haystacks
Thanks mate. What kind of brands do they have that are at discount?
Alright is there any other uk based shops that offer a higher quality?
Thank you. I am willing to spend a bit more-do you have any names of shops which don’t do fast fashion?
The only thing I buy at M&S are vests/undershirts. What type of stuff are you after?
John Lewis isn’t as a bad shout if you’re wanting to look at a range of brands but i’d avoid their own brand stuff generally
I would like some good tops possibly shirts too. Ideally it would be fairly stylish too. I would also like some new socks.
I’m also open to shopping at different places.
As in actual shops you can visit?
also ideal price range of items?
I’m open to both. Potentially online would be better as I have a virtual visa card I could use. I suppose if it has a store branch then that would mean I can try stuff out and then buy online.
I’m actually not sure. I think £20-60 for tops and £20-40 for shirts.
Socks I think should be £5-10
COS
Might be more expensive, no idea, not shopped retail in a while
Hundreds, all their stuff is dicount, but you have to go digging to find stuff you like.
If you’re wanting non-fast fashion at those prices I’d be looking at ebay/vinted/depop
I mean at any prices really. I'd try stuff on at COS or the like then see if I couldn't get it online for half the price.
Alright thanks a lot mate. I will start looking.
