Are belt suspenders goofy or self aware enough to be cool
I really want some funny lil suspenders to accessorize with, but the buttoned on style i had my eye on requires me to either sew on some buttons on my existing pants (and also deal w the paux pas of having suspenders on pants w belt loops??) Or buying specific pants to wear w suspenders. Which defeats the joy and whimsy of accessorizing freely and also i dont need more pants.
I would like to not use clip on suspenders regardless. So now im wondering if these suspenders that slip over a belt are not too immediately eye catchingly weird to wear casually. I know that belts used to just be for holding things and not Keeping Pants Up so it wasnt always weird to have both, but that context is very different today. Thanks

Like do just the suspenders and it’s fine, but both makes it look like half a backpack
The belt suspenders combo looks like sth someone who’s just a bit too much into repro workwear would wear.

What kind of look do you want to go for?
Mainly just looking for a way to layer accessories in 35C weather to make things more fun, not an exact 1:1 to these inspo pics, but that kind of energy. Normally i like to layer diff textures/patterns of clothes but thats currently impossible for the weather

Suspenders are great. I sew buttons on my pants with belt loops and dngaf. Nobody will notice or care. You could always experiment with a seam ripper and taking the belt loops off if it bothers you too much. I agree with art and holf, belt and braces would very quickly verge into steampunk cosplay. Leather braces in general are a hard sell.

might be moreso worth a separate thread but stuff like shoulder bags and bandanas/square scarves might yield similar effects

if you look slim/average build it's nice, a little buff works too. No-go for the big guys you'll look like a clown. If you go for that look, i recommend getting some german ones that are like 50$ and not the cheap 20 $ ones from amazon
