Trouble with installing VirtualBox Guest Additions.
Hi everyone,
To assess whether I want to leave windows and go to linux I am currently testing via Oracle virutal box from a windows 10 PC (virtualizing Bazzite). To adjust the screen size of the bazzite virtual desktop I tried to install the "VirtualBox Guest Additions" "VBox_GAs_7.1.12.
Unfortunately, when I mount the CD in the virtual machine nothing happens.
-Fresh install of Bazzite
-Using virtualbox Version 7.1.12
-Used ujust update to get the latest versions
-Tried to navigate and activate it manually "VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
-Tried to do it via terminal using sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
I would be gratefull for advice on how I can address this. Thank you in advance.

1. I have a bazzite VM and I did not have to install guest additions, bazzite resizes itself automatically. Are you using VBoxSVGA as your adapter?
2. You can use a VM to evaluate the user interface but it will not work for gaming.
First of all thank you for your quick reply.
1. I changed it from the default setting to your suggested VBoxSVGA and increased video memory. Although it still has the tendency to flip back to small size with white bars, I was able to do increase the window. Will try a some more times later, but it is already looking promising. Next challenge will then be getting it to run on 144 hrz.
2. Thank you for the warning, I am aware that gaming on a VM will not do. My goal is more to learn how to operate in bazzite and to learn whether I will be able to change eco-systems.
I wouldn't bother with 144hz, the VM will have input latency no matter what. And I don't think it is possible on VBox.
VBox hides the mouse of the guest and draws the mouse itself to give the feeling it is responsive, you can easily notice this by moving mouse quickly and triggering kde plasma's mouse enlarging effect.
bazzite's root filesystem is read only
meaning you can't install guest additions
Here's more information about managing software on Bazzite and why you can't install guest additions on Bazzite: https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/

Thank you both for the explanations.
To keep help section clear I will keep question where I can see if freesync is active for another post.
To summarize:
1. No: It is not possible to install guest additions on Bazzite (because it requires to be entered via root)
2. To solve the screen size for Virtual box users use the "Graphics controller" VBox SVGA".
