Installing DLC for Alan Wake 2

It took me a while to realise that I didn't have the DLC installed for Alan Wake 2, however once I looked into it I realised that launching the game with the EOS overlay active leads to this error:
The game failed to connect or authenticate with your Epic account. Third-party overlays may prevent the game from resolving this issue. Please try disabling third-party overlays temporarily and restart the game.

I also understand it may be possible to install the DLC through other means? When I click the modify install button for the game I see a DLC item listed, but the action never finished loading. I've also heard that I may be able to use legendary directly to install the DLC but I haven't managed to find out how to use the version of legendary that comes with Heroic. Any advice would be welcome - I really want to get the DLC installed too!
