EXIF Sidecar location not used

For whatever reason immich CLI strips a ton of metadata from images on upload So I added sidecar files - and re-run the upload and then run the meta data sync job However, not a single location is picked up Sidecar example:

This is as exported by osxphotos from photos app and in photos app the location shows fine Is this not surpported? I already run the sidecar job several times, it just does not pick up the locations.

what's the name of the sidecar vs the file?

Example: 9497.JPG, 9497.JPG.xmp Because Immich did not read metadata from the images on first upload I added sidecars after and re-run immich upload. Is that the reason? Did it even upload the new sidecars? Or will it not add the new files, unless the image files changed? When I run the jobs it shows some numbers (like Waiting 19876) and at some point that goes to 0, so ob done... it says no errors etc Docker logs however show nothing at all about any GPS processing, sidecar proicessing or similar)

I'm not sure the sidecars will get uploaded if the image already existed on the server 🤔

... I guess I can scratch this all one last time.

I would rather place the xmp next to the image but you do you 👀

How would I place the file next to the image in all those nested folders, and immich cli changing the name of the asset to some random string? Or am I looking at the wrong folder (uploads)

We don’t support manually placing XMP files into the internal library You should update the asset geo location using the API Or start over with a smaller batch to get them imported right the first time

Which probably is just as fast as scratching and re-uploading (I’d have to create scripts etc etc etc) I don’t want to do a small batch because that works through the app. The entire idea is basically to be able to sync existing large libs, thus why i work with that. I’d have to scan the entire lib to find some images that have gps data immich doesn’t understand… I’ll check if after the fresh upload it did read sidecars (Gut feeling says it’ll in the end resyinc every thing from phone again anyway 🥲, but hopes are not)

https://github.com/simulot/immich-go has an --overwrite option 👀

I am not using immich-go, it cannot read most of the metadata, already tried --- re-ingested with immich cli, locations are there this time Meaning, it does only ingest sidecars if the image is new/updated
