I'm feeling bad about polluting this thread with other issues I'm facing, so I'm going to stop it here, and continue elsewhere.
Just to reiterate, rebasing to 42.20250804 does solve the desktop environment glitches
(of course this is only a temporary bypass with a 90 day expiration date if I'm understanding correctly)
