Tailoring advice

Hi! I recently purchased this very old coat. I love it, but it has some square ass shoulders that make it effectively impossibleo to wear. I want them rounded out a bit.

I’ve had some language barriers with various tailors I’ve consulted, and I also know bugger all about tailoring. The first proposed a ~$300-$400 job, and I gather she wanted to do what I suspected was necessary, and recut the whole shoulder.

Others have seemed confident that they can cut into it and tear out some padding, and it’d be okay.

I’ll try to get it to a wanky shop in the city, but I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts.
