Smart casual help
Hi, so Im not great with clothes and need to put something smart casual together for an interview. And i didnt really look into buying clothes / dressing well until recently.
Currently for shoes i have whats in the image attatched, they aren't as dark as they seem.
And for a shirt I have uniqlo u airism oversized in 2 colours, one black and one cream/beige.
What would be nice for pants? I dont mind going out and buying some, cos I need them anyways. I also have a weighted gray/slate quarterzip, it drapes nicely but idk if thatll work for this. My other pants are mainly track pants/ sweats.

Hi @Masaters! For better answers, include:
- Reference pictures
- Budget in numbers
- Specific measurements
- Openness to buying secondhand and/or online
- Location: country/continent is fine
- Timing/urgency
australia, 5 days until interview
"Dress Code:
Smart casual is recommended. Examples include dark jeans, a shirt, and closed shoes. Please avoid track pants, shorts, sandals, or singlets."
usually shirt in this context means something collared
for pants, you can play it safe with a chino or something
or denim as they suggested, just avoid light washes
might be able to get away with the quarter zip but probably not a bad idea to grab a collared shirt if you get the job you’ll likely need it
oh collared shirt... thanks for saving me...
any recs for that? for chinos a pic would be helpful and are the shoes fine?
u got a uniqlo near u?
yeah
go to uniqlo and just try some shit on, its the easiest store for smart causal, bar none.
Grab some of their chinos, try a few different types of button downs, you'll be done in an hour for cheap.
They also carry some decent denim, and the shoes u posted in the OP are fine, too.
alright easy, and for colour just keep it dark?
and fit should be like not baggy but not tight, idk what its called
Color is up to you entirely, find shit you like. Dark smart casual is boring to me but thats me.
There also isnt a rule on fit, really. If its comfy and you can move around without needing to adjust it too often then its good. Uniqlo keeps their cuts updated so you won't look horribly off-trend in really anything they offer.
They carry wide, straight, and slim fit pants of all type tho, just pick whatever you like.
alright sweet
Just for my knowledge what makes smth smart casual? is there smth syper specific or is it one of the more broader codes.
i get rhat collar is smart casual as it adds "structure"...
its just a general catch-all type term that really doesn't mean much.
You'll be safe if you have neutral colored chinos, dark wash non-distressed denim (some ppl feel lightwash or black denim unnaceptable for smart casual), and a collared shirt or a polo.
basically just kinda inoffensive and boring
right i see, im assuming non distressed means not ripped
usually what footwear do ppl wear for smart casual?
Sneakers, loafers, all sorts of boots, other types of leather shoes, etc. Really just not anything with open toes.
