Hey @Josh | Seigaiha, I'm sorry to hear you got an unexpectedly large bill last month.
Could you have used these compute hours during development?
If you create a support ticket in the console, support will be able to have deeper look into your usage to get to the bottom off this.

I’ve been unable to open a ticket, it just goes to the AI and I have just downgraded my plan for the fear of more unexpected charges. It’s been a big surprise to my morning

What’s your project-id? I’ll forward this along internally

i would like to continue using Neon but if its this much for websites not even live, i'm afraid what the costs would be in full production mode.

Hey @Josh | Seigaiha, we've a guide here that details how you can get the most out of the free tier (and similarly, keep your bills down): https://neon.com/blog/how-to-make-the-most-of-neons-free-plan. Make sure you're following these steps! For instance, review that all your branches (all four current branches you have across your two projects) scale down to zero and start at 0.25 CU, so you're not over-provisioning compute.
Looks like your compute usage also increased in the last 1-2 weeks of September. For each branch, check the Branch > Monitorin tab and review the CPU graph. Do you have spikey traffic and scale-to-zero periods or is your compute always on? If you never scale to zero, that can become pricey across 4 branches (effectively 4 databases), especially if you don't scale from 0.25 CU.
Usually, it always boils down to this:
- Scale down to zero whenever you're not actively developing
- Make sure 0.25 CU is the starting point of your scale

Until I can figure out why I was charged so much, I won’t be continuing with neon. Like I said my sites are not live and not running anything in the background besides a simple database
@Sam I’m sure your busy, have you had any luck with submitting a ticket? I’ve been watching my email for notifications but haven’t seen anything
exotic-emerald•3w ago
Indeed. Andre started a refund request in your name, and I believe he started a DM with you to keep you updated.

what is going on, i was just charged again???

exotic-emerald•3w ago
This is mostly likely for your usage from October 1st to the day you downgraded to the free tier. I'll pass this along as well
foreign-sapphireOP•3w ago
@Sam please have my card removed and I can delete both databases. if i can figure out whats happening then I'm happy to try a neon again but i'm not even sure whats charging so much
i just have a simple video streaming database. i cloned the site to make a second branch but i'm not aware of what would cause such a huge spike. theres only like 10 items on that database for my digitalocean storage
exotic-emerald•3w ago
I've passed this along. Support will have a look and get a betterlook into what is going on

Hey Josh, you already downgraded to the free tier. No further charges will occur. I understand usage-based charges can be stressful and we want to make sure to help you out 🙂 Billing will look into the claim but allow this to take a bit of time.

Thank you andre, please keep me updated with any news
Hello I haven’t heard back about this issue. Any updates would be appreciated
Hey Andre, any luck on figuring out whats going on?
inland-turquoise•2w ago
Hey Josh! Just to be clear - you were charged based on your compute usage. The charges may have been surprising but they are based on your usage.
Our team is looking into refunding because it sounds like you were surprised by the charges and learning Neon and we want to help you out. Please allow our billing team to work through the refund claim. It may take 1-2 weeks. 🙏🏻
Please read through my reply here to understand how the charges occurred: https://discord.com/channels/1176467419317940276/1424556142465646592/1424596938602451014 - lmk if you have any questions!

Thank you for the reply and update. Were you able to find any info on what exactly was using this? I like the neon system but afraid I’m not able to use it without the same happening again. Currently using a local postgre with adminer
