New to dressing well, don't really understand pants rise.
I'm getting into dressing myself well on a daily basis, and I didn't see a bunch of information on pants rise. I understand the measurement, but don't understand why someone would go with a high rise pair of pants vs something that sits on the hip. All my life I've wore pants at my hip, and on the rare occasion they slide down I just wear a belt. In person I've only seen old people wear the pants at there belly button. Online I see people going it but don't really get/like the way it looks. Is wearing high rise pants just coming back as cyclical trend, or is there more that I'm missing. Thanks!

Hi @Floppysaw! For better answers, include:
- Reference pictures
- Budget in numbers
- Specific measurements
- Openness to buying secondhand and/or online
- Location: country/continent is fine
- Timing/urgency
its just a different proportional look
It does come and go with trend. Up to you how much you want to pay attention to that. I personally also find them more comfortable when I need to bend or crouch down or something.
When you say proportions do mean to accentuate some feature? (IE make you look taller)
nothing like that no. i just meant to have more pant and less shirt
oh ok thanks
I could be totally wrong, someone more technical can correct me. I think one of the physical things it does is let the material of the pant hang down vertically as per gravity without interacting with the leg. Unlike a jacket, there is no shoulder (literally) for it to sit on. If the rise is high, there is more weight pull the pant down leading to a flowier movement.
I think to the extent this is right, it’s not necessarily true for heavy dense materials like heavy denim… but I’m not sure
just a stylistic choice
just preference mostly
Look at women's clothing. They use high rise bottoms more often.
