How to reinstall after corruption and keep user profiles/pictures
My server had died and wouldn't turn back on. I got an error along the lines up version out of sync. I then tried to update immich. I must have done this incorrectly because it still didn't work. Restoring from backups I had didn't work either.
I could reinstall immich easily enough, and I could reimport the pictures stored in the upload folder, however they wouldn't be split between users correctly.
I'm using immich in a Docker Container with Unraid 7.1.3.

If you don’t have any backup, you need to re upload them
The images are split by user already in the folders
Are you saying that multiple users pictures are in the same folders or different ones?
How does the folder structure work? The folders directly under upload for example?
Inside every folder is a user folder by UUID
How can I tell which is which?
Sampling some pictures I guess
Are you sure you don’t have a database backup in the backups folder?
I have the "appdata backup" plugin. I tried to use the restore option but it didn't seem to work. It's likely I did something wrong.
How can I avoid this issue happening in the future. This is the second time Immich has just stopped working on me.
That sounds like unraid shenanigans. It’s probably auto moving your database or something like that
In general you should setup and test your backups before a disaster happens
Immich itself will happily keep running for pretty much ever. Issues like this are usually due to the OS or storage medium failure
