Bazzite v42 lacks rog Xbox ally support

I’ve done tons of research to figure out why I couldn’t use my controllers controls on the handheld on desktop mode but I found out that bazzite believes my rog Xbox ally is a laptop. I installed the ally / rog Xbox ally edition of the OS but it seems it isn’t updated to the version that supports the rog Xbox ally. I cannot find version 43 outside of source code so I’m not sure what to do. I currently have a work around but it’s a bit tedious and doesn’t entirely solve the problem. Any fixes or help would be appreciated!!

It sounds like you're on the deprecated ASUS laptop image and need to rebase to either the bazzite-deckbazzite-deck image or bazzite-deck-gnomebazzite-deck-gnome depending on whether your current image is KDE or Gnome, but we'll need to see your

i found the bigger issue. the installed version was "bazzite-deck" instead of a handheld version

The front page of bazzite.gg lets you select what hardware you're using and whether you want KDE or Gnome, and then it picks the correct image for you

I'm not too familiar with how Steam Gaming Mode works and how it handles desktop mode, but I suspect there's a toggle somewhere to enable a Steam Input control scheme in desktop mode

An update @Onihikage after reinstalling bazzite there was a template available to use steam deck controls which put the A/B/X/Y buttons in the desktop layout controls

So it fixed both the booting issue and the controls issue

Well now that you've managed to get it working, a basic troubleshooting step I should have thought of was running
