Stardew VRAM issue

My wife has been playing Stardew and after a few hours, it seems the VRAM usage continues to rise and game was using 16.9GB of VRAM when we realized this and her game started to chug and frames started to drop. What would have caused this? She's got a 9070xt GPU and a 7800x3D CPU
