external library images found but empty photos screen

I've looked all over but I havent found this issue anywhere else regarding external libraries. I'm sure it's something stupid or permissions related but I can't find any logs indicating an issue.
The libraries are found (see photo). They are mounted on the device from my nas and hooked into immich via the docker compose yaml.
When go to my library I see and empty white screen (photo 2). Also metadata extraction is not running, and the thumbnail generation gives:
Before I didnt even find any files in the libraries, but then I ran immich server as 1000:1000 and started seeing something (photo 1)
The library is on a synology nas and the shared folder is mounted with user 1000:1000 so that makes sense. not sure why the rest is failing
