immich only shows a handful of pictures

I have an external drive with 133GB of 21k images and 1.5k videos. before I cleaned it up it was 400GB and showed as such in immich. make a new container now with the only 130GB drive and it does show 21k images and 1.5k videos but only 1.1GiB usage
