tl;dr: should I go for the drape of a small (the first two pictures) or tend towards shirts that follow the contours of my body more closely (the XS in the last picture)?
----
Hello friends. I've hit a stage where I'm interested in getting a nicer wardrobe and it means being very intentional with the clothes I buy to make sure the fit etc is good. I'm also trying to build my understanding of a good fit: something that contours your body vs. has a good drape.
You guys can see the images so I won't give numbers for my body as they don't matter. But the TL;DR is that I have a small waist relative to my glutes and my shoulders / chest. My goal sopping right now is to find the perfect t-shirt fit. And it turns out, I realized I don't actually know what kind of fit I should be aiming for. My gut instinct prefers one that follows the curves of my body -- I'm not buff but I feel like something that complements my body is better than something that hides the curves. But I've been reading more Derek Guy and he's all about drape
So today I was at Buck Mason trying on the heavyweight field spec tee. Because of my build, the shirts don't actually fit me well, but I have a pretty good grasp on shoulder/ chest fit or shirt length. Excuse the dogshit quality of these selfies (no idea what's going on with the lean lmao), the first two are the small (tucked, untucked) and the last one is the XS.
So, the main question I have here is: setting aside how long the shirt is, does the small tee have a nice drape? Or is the XS, which follows my body's contours a bit more, better? I feel like the small has a bit of a weird tenting effect that looks bad to me, but maybe if I got the shirt tailored to the right point then it'd be fine?
