I just don't get it: I updated the server to 1.78.0. But the background update still doesn't work on my iPhone. Do I have to wait for the iOS app update?

I confirm this bug.
If I understood the problem correctly, these file names appear for objects downloaded from icloud. I.e. icloud "optimize storage" function is enabled on the device.
