I've just listened t

[2022-09-25 01:26:46 AM] : I've just listened to Marissa Goldberg's great interview on the Badass Courses podcast. Briefly mentioned was taking on a fractional role (i.e. a part time role at a company - in this case was fractional Head of Remote). I can see this as being basically like offering a consulting service but on the basis of a long term retainer (?). Apart from being a stepping stone to 100% product income, what appeals to me is being able to keep gaining practical experience in the fi...

Not sure if this is

[2022-09-24 04:21:29 PM] : Not sure if this is the right channel, but I wanted to share something, maybe it helps somebody else: I purchased 30x500 earlier this year and I have shipped 1 or 2 ebombs. That’s it....

A for-profit bootcam

[2022-09-23 04:44:31 PM] : A for-profit bootcamp reached out to ask for a free copy of Ruby on Mac for their students in exchange for a link to it on their site. How is this response? ```Thanks for reaching out. I do not provide free licenses to anyone. However, I do have a $899 team license that covers up to 25 people. That's a 65% discount. If you have more than 25 students, you can purchase multiple team licenses by selecting the appropriate quantity during checkout. You can purchase the team license here:...

Worked up my course

[2022-09-16 07:33:57 AM] : Worked up my course outline (finally) and decided to share it with my whole list (scary). Pleased to say I got some positive feedback and constructive suggestions. I'm glad I pushed through my worries about doing this. Outline here if anyone's interested - inspired heavily from Rob Fitz workshop book: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yqFub5xEh_ZwTrQnmNCaByr1rdDB-toQXNt2wo0GE-w/edit#...

gmail has canned res

[2022-09-10 07:07:20 PM] : gmail has canned responses feature, which maybe you can use for new emails, and ... presumably cold email works better if you're customizing anyway?

i’ve done this in py

[2022-09-10 09:57:08 AM] : i’ve done this in python using the standard library, i think the secret is to use the gmail smtp server or something so your email comes from a gmail address. you have to be very careful to not make gmail think you're sending spam though.

Has anyone done a te

[2022-09-08 04:14:09 PM] : Has anyone done a tech assessment of a project? I have an opportunity to do one and I'm not sure how much I should charge. The problem, as stated by the potential client is that they have 2 Rails/React/GraphQL apps, both being developed by one company, "but our speed to develop is terribly slow and I’m looking to potentially bring dev resources in house." I asked for more details and they want "a complete technical architecture, speed of development, number of developers required to accomplish the roadmap, assessment of the developers on board, and providing guidance on how to accomplish the next phase of our project."...

Hi, haven't been her

[2022-09-01 01:32:48 PM] : Hi, haven't been here for a while. I was wondering if 30x500 is primarily for creating and selling education tools, or if anyone's used this to create other types of products. I would love to create a SaaS tool (or otherwise a packaged software product) rather than focus on creating educational content, but I seem to recall a 30x500 podcast somewhere in which they said pursuing SaaS at the outset is a bad idea or something.

I’m stealing this :r

<@U0A68ATKR> i’m hav

[2022-08-25 09:41:41 AM] : alex i’m having a little bit of trouble and could use some guidance if you don’t mind. i have a concern around the growth rate of my email subscribers. it’s a concern i’ve had for a long time now. currently i get about 500 net new subs a year (900 gross), a rate that has not changed in years. at this rate, even if i had a very successful product, e.g. a $1000 product that sold at a 5% conversion rate, that’s only $25K/yr. i don’t think it’s really realistic to expect to have much of a better product situation than that in terms of price and conversion rate, so it seems to me that a path to income replacement must include a higher subscriber rate in addition to a good product offering. (income replacement for me is about $230K/yr btw.)...

Interesting article

[2022-08-25 04:40:03 AM] : Interesting article on the "help scout" email this week that I thought you might find interesting. In the thread.

So currently I'm wri

[2022-08-16 08:49:17 AM] : So currently I'm writing approx 2 ebombs a month, but send these together as a combined email to my email list (plus some other helpful stuff like job links, other articles, etc). Anyone have an opinion on whether "one email a month with multiple articles in" is significantly less effective than "send multiple emails a month, each with one article" ?

I’m curious if anyon

[2022-08-15 05:43:25 AM] : I’m curious if anyone has reused their launch sequence as marketing campaign. Basically what I’m thinking of 1. Send out email launch sequence to your list (classic launch) 2. Publish launch sequence as blog posts and share in communities 3. Create an email course out of the launch sequence as evergreen launch This seems to be a great way to repurpose the content. I’m thinking of starting a new launch sequence to my email list next week. The following week I could publish the blog posts one day each. And after that (or the same time) set up the email course....

in the `Virtual Hot

[2022-08-15 03:16:38 AM] : in the Virtual Hot Seat: How good are your ebomb topics? There’s a section that says: This one is great: “A simple email filter to eliminate 80% of your interruption” It’s a specific pain + a hint at a specific fix...

While doing safari t

[2022-08-10 12:43:51 AM] : While doing safari today I stumbled over this statement:
I understand the task and I know how to approach it, but I dont see the reason as to why I should invest the time to build something that has been built a million times before.
I think this has a world view hidden in it. And perhaps also two. But I’m not sure and I’m also quite opposed against the statement. So now I’m wondering if it is actually a world view or if the statement just colides with a worldview i hold....

<@U6K91K6SH> I'd ref

[2022-08-06 04:05:35 PM] : coreyc I'd reframe this from "my audience forgot about me" (which is very you-centered) to “they haven't seen how I can help them in a while” (which makes it more about them) Through that lens, what would you choose?...

<@U0A68ATKR> the ema

[2022-08-05 03:07:42 AM] : alex the email links in this STB article don’t work anymore https://stackingthebricks.com/the-good-enough-launch/. Would be nice to have a look at them

(The other takeaway

[2022-08-03 04:57:35 AM] : (The other takeaway I took was aiming for an equal balance of listening and doing actvities, as it's through the doing that people actually learn)

it was broader than

[2022-08-02 03:37:56 PM] : it was broader than that even. it was the equivalent of first thinking i was going to teach people how to build a house, then deciding instead i was going to teach them how to remodel a kitchen, and finally deciding i needed to do an entire course on faucets.

Does anyone have a f

[2022-08-02 04:01:40 AM] : Does anyone have a favorite native MacOS app for taking their safari notes in ? I started out with the built-in notes app but it’s not good enough to stay organized.
