DI believe DX refers to DirectX which to my limited understanding has to do with controller support

Tok, so it works fine with DCS and IL-2, but not really with MSFS. Got it!

WIf anyone get keybindings in DCS broken after update (because the VPforce device name got changed), you can run the following command in cmd to rename all the keybinding files in DCS Saved games directory Config/Input

Fokay, i just tested to use the x axis of my rhino as rudder and chose pedals trimmer mode "INSTANT TRIM (FFB FRIENDLY)"... well, sadly it doesn't work. what works is the removal of spring force during holding down the trimmer button. but after release the stick snaps back to center and doesn't hold the intended position. i guess we need ED for built-in support here. because the lack of existing FFB pedals this might take a while 
For some magic mojo via FFB pedal firmware if someone ever builds a set of pedals with a DIY kit.

Fwell, it could work by going the dirty hack way that Brunner is doing. trimming from the "outside" of DCS. but only for the pedals, since for a cyclic it works superb in DCS.

HThis question might have been asked before, but if so I couldn't find it. How useful would a ffb stick be for a fly-by-wire plane, e.g F/A-8 of F-16?

but most Aircraft, FBW included - would have a system in place that would artificially restrain the controls using springs or some kind of computer, so the pilot isn't just yanking a dead piece of metal around while the plane flies all over the place... (except for F-16's ofcourse, that's force sensing!)
if it's enabled in DCS, you could try it in the harrier and manually disable the artificial feel system (i believe i saw a switch for that atleast)

CEven if there would be no good FFB in a module I suppose you can turn the base into a normal spring stick (that's just my rough guess, not really sure how does all of that work, really )

AIdeally (I don't own the Rhino so can't tell from experience) you can use an FFB stick just like a regular stick with incredible amount of adjustability
AOr you can use it to replicate the specific feel of any given stick, for example different amount of travel or resistance on elevator / aileron, different kinds of centering feels etc.
AIt's of course entirely up to the stick and its software just how well that's going to work and like I said I don't have the Rhino so I just don't know

AHarrier at the moment doesn't support the stick "center" moving under trim, we've raised this on the ED forum and no word from the developer about fixing it. Many other modules, such as the F-5E and F-14, do support this, however.
VDoes the rhino software always run in the background? Is it hooked into export lua? If so, the rhino software could detect that you're flying a module that does not support changing stick center based on trim, and when you push the trim hat it could trim the stick at the hardware level?
FIt doesn't need to run in the background. You set it up and once you've got it the way you want it doesn't need to run. Nothing to do with the exports either afaik
FHardware trim is planned out might even already be out, I haven't installed the latest update yet
VYeah that would work fine, I guess I was referring to it from the perspective of being in VR and flying the F14, then switching to a different jet that did not support the center moving under trim without having to get back into the software and turn off that hardware trim, potentially restarting the sim? I assume having hardware trim turned on and then jumping into a jet that supports centering trim would conflict in some manner?
MDCS dictates the effect, so I can Fly in VR with F18 and the stick does not move on trim, then jump right into the F5 which does.
Pmore specifically, the individual airframe module has to have that implemented
PDCS provides the framework/API for the module designers
Pthe module designers have to take advantage of it
Pit's a real shame that module designers aren't required by ED to implement FFB effects
